Play it smart: with a limit

• Betting is entertainment, not income. Even the best handicappers lose often — that is why we publish our losses alongside our wins.
• Set a budget before kickoff and stick to it. Never chase losses.
• Never bet money you need for rent, bills or family.
• Take breaks. Licensed sportsbooks offer deposit limits, time limits, cool-off periods and self-exclusion in your account settings — use them.
• Keep it legal. Bet only where sports wagering is legal for you, and only if you are 21 or older.
• Don't bet impaired, upset, or to escape problems.

Warning signs

Betting more than you planned, borrowing to bet, hiding betting from people close to you, feeling anxious or irritable when not betting, or chasing losses are signs to pause and talk to someone.
